“Not the best move, but too tempting”: Rinat Jumabayev annotates his second round win

Eliminating Fabiano Caruana, then ranked #2 in the world, in the third round of the Chess World Cup 2021 was one of Rinat Jumabayev’s most notable achievements. Jumabayev is a Kazakhstani chess Grandmaster, born on July 23, 1989, in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2009. Jumabayev has represented Kazakhstan in various international chess competitions, including the Chess Olympiads and the Asian Team Chess Championship. Some of his other achievements include winning the Kazakhstani Chess Championship in 2014 and several international tournaments. He has a peak FIDE rating of 2658, achieved in October 2021.

After his first appearance at the Tegernsee in 2017 Jumabayev is now back at the 27th edition of the OIBM. After his convincing second round win against Tom Linus Bosselmann (Lübeck) Jumabayev sent in the annotated game to be published on the tournament website.
